New Home in Laveen, Arizona
2006

Floorplan

Last summer Mark and I decided it was time to stop investing in other people's equity. So we found a new development being built in the community of Laveen in southwestern Phoenix. Laveen has been a ranching community since it was founded, but now all the land is being developed for residential and commercial projects. We're pretty excited, as neither of us have ever owned a home before. But it's pretty daunting at the same time. We should be in the new house this May!

P.S. Forgive the poor quality of the photos as they were taken with my cell phone.

Cabinets! We finally have cabinets! Well, at least most of them. All our bathroom cabinets have been installed. The cabinet company made an error and not all of our kitchen cabinets have been delivered. This has caused an indefinite delay on the house, meaning all of our neighbors have a set walk-through date at this point. We are still waiting on ours. The alarm system has been installed, as well as all of the light fixtures that come with the house. We are going to purchase ceiling fans/lights separately for the six main living areas.

Getting very close now! Our house has been painted inside and out, our doors were being installed while we were there, the shelves in all the closets have been installed, and the foundation for our perimeter wall has been laid. Today was an exciting day to see the progress on the house!

We have drywall! It hasn't been taped or plastered yet, but it's been installed. Now you can finally get a sense of the size of the rooms. I gauge the next steps of the house based on what they are doing to the houses across the street. You can see in one of the pictures that the house directly across from us has the stucco applied, and their drywall has been taped and plastered. Next time I see the house, we should be at that stage.

Mom, Dad, Mark, and I went out to see the house today. The exterior siding has been installed, but other than that things haven't changed much. Oh, they replaced my damaged shower with a new one, and the old one is sitting in front of the house.

We finally got rain in Phoenix today! Thus ends our record-setting 143-day dry spell! It's been raining since a little before midnight and it's also freezing outside, so most of my time at the house in Laveen was spent under the protection of our covered patio. With the exception of the roof tiles, I couldn't find any new development on the house since last week.

Roof tiles are settling on top of the house (or whatever the process is called)

Nothing has changed much in the last week, except that trees have been planted in the north greenbelt (the park area near us).

Model Home

These photos of the model home were taken the day that we signed the contract on the house. They have all been flipped horizontally to match the orientation of the home we purchased (i.e. the model's garage is actually on the right, not the left).

Our elevation is a little different from the model; and we will not have this walled area in front
